10: War On The Run by John F. Ross

Welcome to episode 10 of the Enlightened Neanderthals podcast!  In this episode the gang review War on the Run by John F. Ross, published by Bantam Books.  This is a fascinating account of the feats of Maj. Robert Rogers, a man widely considered to be the god father of American military special operations- his "28 rules of ranging" are still in unofficial effect in today's 75th Ranger Regiment.  Rogers raised several companies of Rangers for the British Army during the French and Indian War, and led them on endurance breaking raids and recons into French Canada.  The feats of strength and endurance while in combat demonstrated by his frontiersman turned Rangers left us a little awestruck.  We all enjoyed this one, and recommend you all check it out!

6: With The Old Breed by E.B. Sledge

Welcome to episode 6 of the Enlightened Neanderthals podcast!  This is our first of many book reports: With the Old Breed by Eugene B. Sledge, published by Oxford University Press.  This is another fun episode about an outstanding book!  Eugene Sledge is a Marine who fought in the bitter campaigns for Peleliu and Okinawa in WWII.  His memoir of his service captures the horrors of close fighting the Marines experienced with the Japanese army and the outright slaughter and attrition of the island hopping campaigns that led to the first and only use of nuclear weapons against an enemy.
